What will the future hold for people with disabilities in Delaware? The first-ever Disabilities Gubernatorial Forum, held on July 17, 2008, provided a unique opportunity to hear how the future may unfold. Nearly 300 attendees listened as gubernatorial candidates John Carney, Jack Markell and Mike Protack presented their ideas about issues affecting people with disabilities.
Each candidate addressed five questions that had been provided to them prior to the forum. Afterwards, the candidates responded to questions from the audience and then met and talked with attendees.
“DelARF was excited to be part of a coalition of organizations that put the issues of more than 100,000 Delawareans front and center. The impressive turnout of the disability community and the commitment of the candidates to provide more community services to people with disabilities and their families made the evening a huge success,” said Connie Hughes, Executive Director of the Delaware Association of Rehabilitation Facilities.
Audience members were also able to submit additional questions which were provided to the candidates in late August. Responses will be posted on this website as they become available. Links to photos, news articles and each candidate’s disability plan can be found below.
