Commissions: Physical Disabilities Commission (PDC)

The Physical Disabilities Commission takes the lead for DelARF and its members in addressing physical disabilities issues, which includes all categories of disabilities that are not classified as behavioral or developmental. The PDC also takes the lead on the broader issues of transportation, housing, accessibility and respite care, often in conjunction with other Commissions. The PDC has four primary goals:

  • Evaluate current physical disabilities public policy and promote change where needed.
  • Work with the Departments of Health and Social Services, Labor and Transportation and very directly with the Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities as it is the primary State agency focusing on services for consumers with physical disabilities.
  • Inform members about State Budget issues impacting consumers and service providers in the area of physical disabilities and help them advocate for the allocation of resources through the State Budget Hearings in the fall and the Joint Finance Committee Hearings in the spring.
  • Sponsor events enabling members, legislators and government managers to educate each other on physical disabilities issues and to work together in building a strong system of community care.
