The Vocational Services Commission takes the lead for DelARF and its members in addressing vocational issues (assessments, training, job development, employment, long-term job supports, etc.) within the field of rehabilitation. The VSC has four primary goals:
- Evaluate current public policy related to jobs and employment and promote change where needed.
- Work primarily with the Department of Labor but also other departments involved in vocational issues. The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation is the primary State agency focusing on vocational services for people with disabilities, and the VSC works closely with this agency.
- Inform members about State Budget issues impacting consumers and service providers in all areas related to the employment of people with disabilities, and help them advocate for the allocation of resources through the State Budget Hearings in the fall and the Joint Finance Committee Hearings in the spring.
- Sponsor events enabling members, legislators and government managers to educate each other about vocational and employment issues and to work together in building employment opportunities and a strong system of long term employment supports for people with disabilities.
